Local School Vegetable Gardens

The Fremont Conservation District believes in the importance of kids knowing where their food comes from!!  We have assisted five  preschools and three schools with gardens for their students, families and faculty to enjoy and learn from.  The schools are:  Cotopaxi school, Canon City High School, Florence Junior Senior High School, Mountain View Core Knowledge, The Ark Childcare in Florence, Fremont County Head Start, Starpoint on Elm and Rocky Mountain Children's Discovery Center.  We have enjoyed assisting with these gardens and the students and teachers have a great time too!!  We have had very successful harvests from each garden and the families are enjoying the produce as well!!  If you are at these schools, please check the gardens out!!  Check out the pictures below!!

In 2019, Fremont Conservation District (FCD) received Matching Grant funds from the Colorado State Conservation Board (CSCB) to assist in building and furnishing the planting materials for the preschool gardens in the amount of $1250.  In 2020, FCD received additional funds in the amount of $2150 to complete these gardens.  We are very appreciative to the preschools for allowing us to install these gardens for continual use for their students and teachers.  Please see the final report below for how these funds were expended for each school that participated.

In 2022, Fremont Conservation District (FCD) received Matching Grant funds from the Colorado State Conservation Board to assist the Florence Junior Senior High School (FJSHS) in putting in their school garden in the amount of $3250.  This garden is located by the Agriculture Building and is used as a teaching garden for the students.
